Oscar Ukonu is a Lagos-based visual artist with a background in architecture. His distinctive portraiture investigates the complexities of African identity through cultural, psychological, and sociopolitical lenses. Drawing on personal experience and historical references, Ukonu explores how contemporary identities are shaped by media, technology, and shifting cultural narratives.
He has been commissioned by major institutions like the UNICEF and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, for which he created the campaign art for the 2022 Oscars Awards. His work is held in major collections both in Nigeria and internationally, and has been widely exhibited around the world.
